Public water systems in New Jersey must notify affected customers of boil water notices within 24 hours of learning about an emergency or condition requiring the notice.

Starting 90 days after enactment, water systems must contact customers via their preferred method (telephone, email, or text message) and post notices on any public-facing website.

Water systems must include a solicitation in customer bills within 60 days of enactment asking customers to specify their preferred contact method for emergency notifications.

Boil water notices must include the water system name, affected geographic area, date of the incident, consumer corrective measures, and a telephone number for customer questions.

Water systems must also notify customers when a boil water notice is rescinded using the same contact methods used for the original notice.
