School districts in New Jersey may provide virtual or remote instruction to students attending public schools used as polling places for the April 16, 2026 special election to fill the U.S. House of Representatives vacancy in the 11th Congressional District

The virtual instruction option applies only on the single day of the special election, and districts must ensure all students have access to computers, broadband, and required technology before implementing

Districts using this provision are not required to offer a combination of in-person and virtual instruction on the election day

The Commissioner of Education must count the virtual instruction day toward the 180-day school year requirement for State school aid eligibility

Superintendents have authority to implement the virtual instruction program and must promptly inform students, parents, staff, and the board of education of their decision
