Public water systems must notify affected customers of boil water notices within 24 hours of learning of the emergency, in addition to the existing requirement to notify municipal officials within one hour.

Water systems must solicit each customer's preferred contact method (telephone, email, or text message) through billing statements within 60 days of enactment and acquire the capability to contact customers directly.

When drinking water quality standards are violated or action levels exceeded, water systems must immediately notify by telephone and email the governing body, municipal clerk, and chief administrators of all school districts, charter schools, and nonpublic schools in affected municipalities.

Boil water notices and their rescissions must be posted on any websites and social media accounts the water system maintains for the public.

Customers of record for multi-unit buildings must distribute contact preference solicitations to all units within their multiple dwelling, condominium, or cooperative.
