State Board of Education must review and update the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Social Studies during the next scheduled standards update to incorporate instruction on recent historical events for grades K-12

The board is specifically required to consider adding standards pertaining to the events of September 11, 2001, along with any other historically significant events deemed appropriate

Public participation is mandated through opportunities to comment in person or submit written comments regarding the Social Studies standards update

Following the initial update, the board must continue evaluating additional historical events for inclusion with each subsequent scheduled update to the Student Learning Standards

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment and requires the board to follow existing review and readoption processes established by State Board of Education regulations
