New Jersey Department of Health must evaluate whether each hospital complies with federal hospital price transparency requirements under 45 C.F.R. Part 180, which mandate disclosure of standard charges.

DOH may issue written warnings, request corrective action plans for material violations, or impose civil monetary penalties on noncompliant hospitals and publish those penalties online.

Daily civil monetary penalties range from $300 for hospitals with 30 or fewer beds to $5,500 for hospitals with more than 550 beds, with mid-size hospitals penalized at $10 per bed per day.

Hospitals must pay penalties within 60 calendar days and may appeal within 30 calendar days; failure to request a hearing waives appeal rights except for good cause.

DOH must submit annual compliance reports to the Governor and Legislature and publish findings on its website; the bill takes effect 180 days after enactment.
