Public school students who sustain a concussion must receive an evaluation by a physician or licensed health care provider trained in concussion management and obtain written clearance from a physician before returning to school.

Students with concussions are prohibited from all physical activity at school, including recess, physical education, and intramural sports, until receiving physician evaluation and written clearance.

When a physician specifies restrictions or limitations for a concussed student, the school district's 504 team must immediately implement them and notify all teachers and staff who interact with the student.

The 504 team must work with the treating physician to determine how restrictions will be provided during recovery, whether adjustments are needed, and the duration of limitations.
