New Jersey Legislature urges school districts to establish concussion management teams composed of school physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, athletic trainers, and administrators to manage student care after brain injuries.

CDC reported approximately 2.3 million children and adolescents had received a concussion or brain injury diagnosis in their lifetime as of 2022.

Concussion management teams would coordinate with families and school staff to ensure students safely return to classroom and sports activities, providing in-school support during recovery.

School districts are already required to have written policies on concussion prevention and treatment; this resolution encourages establishing dedicated teams as an additional resource.

The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey is identified as a resource to assist school districts in developing these teams.
