New Jersey forests cover 40% of the state's land area and experience an average of 1,500 wildfires annually, damaging or destroying 7,000 acres each year

The resolution urges Congress to pass the federal "Fix Our Forests Act," which would create an interagency Fireshed Center to use data for assessing and predicting wildfire risk

The federal legislation would facilitate environmental reviews for forest management practices, limit litigation on fireshed management projects, and promote livestock grazing in forests

Additional provisions include requiring a study on pine beetle infestations and promoting strategies to strengthen the domestic seed supply

The resolution directs that copies be transmitted to congressional leadership and all members of Congress elected from New Jersey
