Offense occurs when a person carries a firearm while simultaneously violating state drug trafficking laws (Section 30-31-20 NMSA 1978)

Classified as a third degree felony with sentencing under standard felony sentencing provisions (Section 31-18-15 NMSA 1978)

Defines "firearm" broadly to include any weapon designed to expel a projectile by explosion, or that may readily be converted to do so, including frames and receivers
