Requests the Department of Health and Department of Public Safety to convene a task force to research health and firearm safety policy and develop recommendations to reduce firearm violence in New Mexico

Task force would review firearm licensing laws, policies on semiautomatic weapons and large capacity magazines, DWI conviction restrictions on firearm ownership, state-federal law alignment for felons possessing firearms, and toxicology data on gun violence perpetrators

Task force membership includes representatives from state agencies (Health, Public Safety, CYFD, Public Education), healthcare entities, courts, police chiefs from major cities, school boards, tribal nations, community stakeholders, and Moms Demand Action

Cites that New Mexico had the fourth highest overall firearm death rate nationally in 2023, the highest rate of gun suicide among young people, and a gun suicide rate three times the national average

Task force must report findings to the interim legislative committee on courts, corrections, and justice issues and the legislative health and human services committee by September 15, 2026
