Parents may anonymously relinquish infants up to 90 days old in safe haven baby boxes or with staff at hospitals, fire stations, or law enforcement agencies without criminal prosecution for abandonment

Safe haven baby boxes are defined as conspicuously marked infant safety devices that maintain optimal care environments and allow anonymous relinquishment

Parents have 90 days from relinquishment to contact the Children, Youth and Families Department to pursue reunification; otherwise, the department must file to terminate parental rights

Safe haven sites and their staff receive immunity from criminal and civil liability for accepting infants and installing/maintaining baby boxes, except for subsequent negligent medical care

Infants relinquished at safe haven sites are exempt from requirements to notify grandparents and relatives, and are presumptively eligible for Medicaid benefits
