New Mexico has approximately 4,600 law enforcement officers, with 162 officers from the state memorialized on the national law enforcement officers memorial for dying in the line of duty since 1786

Over 79,000 officers were assaulted nationwide in 2023, the highest rate in years, and 1,055 officers have been shot in the line of duty over the past three years, resulting in 172 deaths

Full-time state and local law enforcement officers decreased by more than 5% between 2019 and 2021, a loss equivalent to 37,000 officers nationwide

Requests all levels of New Mexico government to ensure officers receive support and resources including increased personnel, improved training and equipment, increased penalties for violent acts against officers, and expanded mental health resources

Copies of the memorial to be transmitted to the governor, secretary of public safety, New Mexico sheriffs' association, New Mexico association of chiefs of police, and citizens behind the badge
