Appointed members of school district boards (in districts with 75,000+ pupils, currently Clark County) gain full voting rights and equal authority with elected members, including voting on all matters, serving as officers, making motions, and requesting agenda items.

School boards are prohibited from adopting policies, bylaws, or practices that restrict the duties, rights, or responsibilities of trustees based on whether they were elected or appointed.

A 12-year term limit is established for school district trustees, applying to both elected and appointed members across any school district or combination of districts in Nevada.

Boards of trustees are prohibited from conducting certain business—including officer elections, vacancy appointments, and policy changes—during meetings designated as work sessions or workshops.

Appointed members must be included when calculating quorum for board meetings, and all members may participate in appointing replacements to fill vacancies among elected trustees. Effective July 1, 2025.
