Applicants must attest to their homeless status and provide proof of legal name and age using DMV-required documents; cards issued without verified identity documents must clearly indicate this on the face of the card

Cards remain valid up to 8 years and do not expire when the holder is no longer homeless; cards must be surrendered upon obtaining a driver's license or other state ID

Local governments may accept these identification cards for any activity or transaction where DMV-issued identification is accepted, though the cards do not authorize motor vehicle operation or convey independent benefit rights

Sex offenders and offenders convicted of crimes against children cannot receive cards until verified compliant with registration requirements; personal information in Department records is confidential and not a public record
