State Engineer and assistants are exempted from liability for damages caused by dam or reservoir failures resulting from inspections, emergency responses, or enforcement actions

Dam construction, reconstruction, or alteration now requires State Engineer approval before beginning work; plans and specifications must be submitted for dams 20+ feet in height, those impounding 20+ acre-feet of water, or those classified as high or significant hazard

Works under jurisdiction of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are exempt from state approval, inspection, and safety requirements

State Engineer may enter adjacent parcels of land as necessary to access dams or obstructions for investigation purposes, and may remove illegal dams after providing 30-day written notice to owners

Department of Wildlife must be notified and given access to applications when dams are proposed for construction, alteration, enlargement, or decommissioning; violations may result in administrative fines up to $10,000 per day
