Nevada System of Higher Education institutions may establish a pilot program offering alternative assessment methods for teacher licensing, allowing participants to be exempt from the standard competency test in principles and methods of teaching

Maximum of 100 participants per academic year, paired with up to 25 mentor teachers who have at least 5 years of public school teaching experience in Nevada

Participants must hold a provisional license, emergency substitute teacher license, or substitute teacher endorsement, and must receive at least two consecutive "effective" or "highly effective" performance evaluations to complete the program

Department of Education extends competency test deadlines by 24 months for participants, and removes the testing requirement upon successful program completion

Pilot program expires July 1, 2029, with annual progress reports required and a final report due within 6 months of program cessation including recommendations for broader implementation
