Volunteer members of the Nevada Wing of the Civil Air Patrol are entitled to job-protected leave of absence without loss of position, seniority, accrued leave, or benefits for up to 10 workdays per federal fiscal year for emergency mission training and up to 30 workdays for responding to emergency missions

Emergency missions include search and rescue and disaster response activities, and employees must provide certification of authorization from the U.S. Air Force, Governor, or political subdivision plus verification from the Civil Air Patrol

Employers may treat the leave as unpaid but cannot require employees to exhaust other leave first; employers are not prohibited from voluntarily providing paid leave

Employees who experience violations may bring civil action to recover lost wages and benefits plus reasonable attorney's fees and costs

Employers can no longer prohibit Civil Air Patrol members from participating in authorized emergency training or mission activities during normal working hours
