Protected classes include race, religious creed, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, familial status, and sex

Provides a defense for respondents who can prove with non-hypothetical evidence that the challenged practice is necessary to achieve substantial, legitimate, nondiscriminatory interests and no less discriminatory alternative exists

Establishes a burden-shifting framework where complainants must first show discriminatory effect, then respondents may justify the practice, and complainants can still prevail by demonstrating less discriminatory alternatives

Becomes effective upon passage and approval
