School district boards and charter school governing bodies may authorize junior high, middle school, and high school students to earn elective credit for completing approved outdoor recreational activities outside of school hours.

Qualifying activities must require significant outdoor time and teach relevant outdoor education skills such as identifying native plants and animals, trail building, habitat restoration, survival skills, hiking, archery, or bird watching.

Schools that approve such credits must establish maximum credit limits, application procedures for students, and parental consent requirements.

Schools are not required to provide, facilitate, or fund any outdoor recreational activities under this legislation.

Effective date: July 1, 2025.
