Election-related communications containing synthetic media (AI-generated or manipulated images, video, or audio) must include a clear disclosure stating "This (image/video/audio) has been manipulated."

Video disclosures must appear for the entire duration; audio-only disclosures must be read at the beginning, end, and every 2 minutes for content longer than 2 minutes.

Candidates depicted in synthetic media communications lacking required disclosures may seek injunctions or equitable relief in district court against those who made or paid for the communication.

Streaming services, internet providers, broadcasters, and persons publishing synthetic media as satire or parody are exempt from liability.

Effective January 1, 2026.
