Championed legislation on mentoring programs, educational opportunities for students, homeless youth issues, health care, criminal offender reintegration, and establishing Peace Week in Nevada

Served over 17 years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care

Following his passing in 2019, his legacy has been honored through Ty's Place after-school hub, Tyrone Thompson Student Union at College of Southern Nevada, Tyrone Thompson Elementary School, and a University of Phoenix scholarship in his name
