Occupational therapists and physical therapists are added to the list of practitioners authorized to certify that an applicant has a disability for purposes of obtaining special license plates, parking placards, or parking stickers from the DMV.

Previously, only licensed physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses could provide disability certification for these parking privileges.

Agents or employees of authorized medical practitioners may complete the certification statement or certificate at the direction and under the supervision of the practitioner, provided the medical determination itself is made by the licensed professional.

The change applies to certifications for permanent disabilities (irreversible), disabilities of moderate duration (reversible but lasting longer than 6 months), and temporary disabilities (lasting 6 months or less).
