Short-term car rental companies must require proof of insurance meeting Nevada's minimum coverage requirements (per NRS 485.185) as a condition for leasing a passenger car.

Rental companies may sell temporary insurance policies or refer customers to third-party sellers if the customer lacks proof of insurance, but prices cannot exceed standard market rates.

Rental companies may refuse to lease a vehicle to anyone who cannot provide proof of insurance and declines to purchase a temporary policy.

Selling temporary insurance policies under these provisions does not constitute unfair, deceptive, or coercive conduct prohibited under existing law.

Existing damage waiver caps remain in place: $22/day for standard vehicles and $150/day for vehicles with MSRP over $60,000, with annual CPI adjustments.
