County sheriffs may enter into written agreements with specified federal agencies (Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Veterans Affairs) to authorize federal employees to enforce state or local laws within the sheriff's jurisdiction

Agreements must be limited to 2-year terms and must specify which laws will be enforced, which federal positions are covered, and grounds for revoking an employee's authority

Federal employees covered by these agreements receive peace officer powers but only when performing duties within the scope of the written agreement

Federal employees must obtain certification from Nevada's Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission within 6 months of the agreement's effective date or their hire date, rather than the standard 1-year requirement for state peace officers

Agreements cannot grant federal employees any authority beyond the sheriff's own jurisdiction and authority
