Health insurance policies covering lung cancer treatment must also cover lung cancer screening according to American Cancer Society guidelines or other nationally recognized professional organization guidelines, effective January 1, 2026

Applies to individual health insurance, group health insurance, health benefit plans, fraternal benefit contracts, hospital/medical service corporation policies, health maintenance organizations, and managed care organizations

Medicaid managed care organizations are explicitly exempt from the lung cancer screening coverage requirements

Commissioner of Insurance may suspend or revoke certificates of authority for health maintenance organizations that fail to comply with the screening coverage requirements

Department of Health and Human Services must conduct a study by July 1, 2026 to determine if American Cancer Society lung cancer screening criteria creates access inequities based on sex or gender identity, and submit findings to the Joint Interim Standing Committee on Health and Human Services
