Public officers must take two additional oaths under penalty of perjury: one affirming no obligations to vote or appoint in favor of any person, and another confirming actual residence in the required area with a commitment to notify authorities within 30 days of address changes and relinquish office upon vacancy-triggering events.

Electors may file written challenges with the Attorney General or district attorney against incumbent public officers on grounds that a vacancy has occurred due to events such as moving out of the required residence area, with challenges requiring an affidavit signed under penalty of perjury.

Vacancies in party nominations due to nominees no longer residing in required areas (in addition to existing reasons of death or mental incompetency) can be filled by party committees if occurring before 5 p.m. on the fourth Friday in July of the election year.

Proof of identity and residency documents submitted with declarations of candidacy are designated as public records (excluding social security numbers, driver's license numbers, and account numbers).

Certified candidate lists shared between the Secretary of State and county clerks must include both the residential address where the candidate actually resides and the mailing address if different.
