Amends General Municipal Law Section 207-c to expand disability benefit coverage for law enforcement officers injured in the performance of "heightened risk" law enforcement duties, replacing the previous language of injuries "incurred in the performance of duties."

Extends coverage to additional categories of officers including LIRR police officers, advanced ambulance medical technicians, fire inspectors, fire marshals, and probation officers in Nassau County.

Requires municipalities and employers to pay full regular salary and wages to injured officers until disability ceases, plus all medical treatment and hospital care costs necessitated by the injury or illness.

Allows municipalities or employers to discontinue full salary payments if an officer refuses available light duty work, is granted accidental disability retirement, or reaches mandatory retirement age, though medical coverage continues post-retirement.

Takes effect immediately, with provisions subject to expiration and reversion provisions of prior law regarding the amendments.
