Licensed massage therapists must complete a minimum of 36 hours of acceptable formal continuing education during each triennial registration period, with a maximum of 12 hours permitted as self-instructional coursework.

Massage therapists are exempt from continuing education requirements during their first triennial registration period after initial licensure, and exemptions may be granted for health reasons, armed forces duty, or other good cause.

Massage therapists not engaged in professional practice may be exempt upon filing a statement with the department, but must complete required education before reentering practice.

A conditional registration certificate may be issued at the department's discretion to licensees who fail to meet requirements but agree to complete deficiencies, valid for no more than one year and subject to the same fee as regular triennial registration.

A mandatory continuing education fee of $45 must be paid with each triennial registration, and documentation of completion must be maintained and provided to the department upon request.
