Commissioner of Environmental Conservation, in cooperation with the Department of Health, must examine available data and studies on dangers posed by smoke detector disposal

Analysis and report must address the quantity of smoke detectors entering the solid waste stream, concentration in specific landfills, and potential exposure to americium-241 for landfill workers, sanitation workers, firefighters, smoke detector manufacturers, and the general public

Commissioner must submit findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature within one year of the act's effective date

Report must include specific recommendations on continued sale of ionization smoke detectors and regulation of their disposal as hazardous waste

Act takes effect immediately upon passage
