Podiatrists must maintain X-rays of eligible patients receiving custom orthotics when medically necessary, with X-rays identifying the podiatrist, patient, date taken, and foot location

Podiatric custom orthotics cannot be prescribed for patients with no objective pathology, those unwilling to cooperate in using the orthotic or appropriate shoe, or those considered poor risks for follow-up adjustments

Custom orthotics must be created from plaster casts, castefoam, impression paper, or paper tracings delivered to a laboratory, then fitted and adjusted to the patient's diagnosed condition

Act takes effect 60 days after becoming law and applies retroactively to clarify ambiguities in the 1982 New York social services podiatry provider manual
