Extends the validity period for police basic training certificates for officers with at least 10 years of service who experience a service interruption of up to three years to serve as peace officers for state or local governments.

Allows peace officers whose interruption consisted of substantially comparable duties (as determined by the employing police agency administrator) to maintain valid training certificates without retraining in certain circumstances.

Permits the employing police agency administrator to require satisfactory completion of relevant police officer refresher training courses if deemed necessary for officers returning under the three-year interruption provision.

Maintains existing validity periods for training certificates during continuous service and for interruptions of less than two years (2-year extension) or two or more consecutive years (4-year extension).

Takes effect 120 days after becoming law.
