Establishes distinguished chairs in gerontological sciences at one or more research, educational, and/or medical facilities in New York State, funded by appropriation.

Chairs shall conduct research, provide educational and training activities, and deliver clinical services focused on excellence in geriatric medicine, patient-centered training, and collaborative research across medical specialties and disciplines.

Each chair must develop a five-year regional strategic plan and establish multidisciplinary research collaborations including basic science, clinical, and applied research in geriatrics and gerontology.

Selected sites must match any state funds provided; chair occupants are appointed by institutional chancellors or CEOs based on reputation, scholarship, experience, and mentoring ability in the geriatrics field.

Each selected chair receives a grant of one million dollars (or as available by appropriation); the director must submit annual reports to the Governor, Legislature, and relevant committees measuring activities, expenditures, and progress toward established goals.
