Authorizes the town of Salem to extend its fire protection district to include the entire corporate limits of the village of Salem, effective upon the village board's adoption of a resolution abolishing the village fire department under village law section 10-1020.

The extended fire protection district shall be governed by town law section 184, with the town board possessing all powers, duties, limitations, procedures, and restrictions applicable to fire protection districts under that section.

Allows the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. (a not-for-profit corporation) to maintain its corporate existence and continue operating apparatus and facilities within the village, but places it under the control of the town of Salem rather than village authorities.

Requires the town to comply with town law section 173, subdivision 1, in addition to adopting the resolution extending the fire protection district as required by town law section 170, subdivision 2.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
