Property owners or their representatives must notify local government when applying for building permits for new residential structures, additions, or rehabilitations using truss type, pre-engineered wood, or timber construction.

Local government must notify the fire district, fire department, or fire company having jurisdiction by certified mail, facsimile, e-mail, or other electronic means upon receiving the building permit application.

A sign or symbol approved by the Council must be affixed to an exterior electric box as a condition of receiving a Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Completion, with property owners responsible for maintenance and replacement.

Local building departments must consult with county fire coordinators, local 911 dispatchers, and fire protection providers to determine how to warn emergency responders of truss construction in structures.

This act does not apply to cities with a population of one million or more persons and takes effect January 1 following enactment; the Council and Secretary of State shall promulgate rules and incorporate educational information about truss construction safety into fire prevention training.
