Amends Criminal Procedure Law Section 140.50 to require that when a male police officer is authorized to search a female individual for weapons, the officer must offer the woman the opportunity to have a female officer conduct the search instead.

If a female individual chooses to have a female officer perform the search, the questioning officer must detain the individual until a female officer arrives before conducting any search.

The requirement to offer a female officer does not apply when the police department has no female officers employed or when no female officers are working at the time of the temporary questioning.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
