Beth Barsamian is authorized to receive an ordinary death benefit under Section 606 of the Retirement and Social Security Law for her daughter Lauren Barsamian, who died on October 14, 2005 from an accident while employed by the East Ramapo School District.

Lauren Barsamian's prior service credit as a teacher from September 2002 through August 2005 at St. Joseph's School for the Deaf (New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System) may be transferred to the New York State Teachers' Retirement System if Beth Barsamian files an application with the State Comptroller by December 31, 2014.

The service credit transfer shall be deemed effective as of Lauren Barsamian's membership date with the New York State Teachers' Retirement System (September 1, 2005) and does not include transfer of member contributions already paid to her designated beneficiary.

All costs of implementing this act due to past service shall be borne by employers of members of the New York State Teachers' Retirement System, with the ordinary death benefit estimated at $167,000.

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
