The Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, in consultation with the State Education Department, shall identify or develop educational materials on problem gambling for school-aged youth.

School districts and boards of cooperative educational services may use these materials at their option to educate students on the dangers and consequences of problem gambling.

The State Education Department shall make these materials available on its internet website, with the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services website providing a hyperlink to the education department's page displaying the materials.

The bill amends the Mental Hygiene Law and Education Law, replacing a previous requirement to establish a mandatory curriculum with a more flexible approach using optional educational materials.

The act takes effect on the same date as chapter 551 of the laws of 2013.
