Removes the prohibition on agents making decisions about artificial nutrition and hydration when a principal's wishes are unknown, allowing agents to decide based on the principal's best interests.

Clarifies that oral nutrition and hydration without medical treatment is not considered "health care" under the article and is not subject to its provisions.

Modifies health care proxy forms to inform individuals they may optionally state wishes about withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment including artificially-provided nutrition and hydration.

Applies the amendments retroactively to health care proxies created before the effective date of the act, as well as those created after.

Takes effect ninety days after becoming law.
