Lever voting machines must remain locked against voting for 30 days after an election or until 15 days before the next election if the machines are needed for use.

Machines may be unlocked if a discrepancy discovered during a recount makes it necessary to examine the machine to determine if it malfunctioned.

Machines may be opened and examined upon court order by any judge of competent jurisdiction.

The act takes effect immediately but expires when the underlying election law section expires.
