Nicole Steinberg is authorized to apply for retroactive membership in the New York State Teachers' Retirement System with an effective date of September 13, 2007, when she began employment as a permanent building substitute teacher with the Middle Country Central School District

Steinberg must file her application within one year of the bill's effective date and will be classified as a Tier IV member with all associated rights and benefits

Her actual membership date was June 1, 2010, but this bill backdates it to September 13, 2007 to account for her delay in joining the system due to reasons not attributable to her own negligence

The Middle Country Central School District shall bear all past service costs of implementing this provision, estimated at $30,000

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment
