Adds requirement for at least one approved and operational carbon monoxide detecting device in buildings classified as occupancy groups F-1, F-3, and F-4 (restaurants and other commercial buildings)

Devices must be installed and maintained in accordance with rules promulgated by the commissioner in consultation with the fire department and department of health and mental hygiene

Requirement applies retroactively to all buildings regardless of when constructed or when certificate of occupancy was issued

Enforcement authority granted to the department of buildings, fire department, department of health and mental hygiene, and department of housing preservation and development

Act takes effect 180 days after becoming law
