Chief officers of volunteer ambulance companies, proprietary ambulance services, and other EMS providers must notify applicants for EMT, paramedic, certified first responder, and related positions that their identifying information will be checked against sex offender registry records.

Chief officers must inquire within ten business days of receiving an application whether the applicant is required to register as a sex offender by contacting the Division using an established telephone number or checking online registries for Level Two and Three offenders.

When a search reveals an applicant is registered under Article Six-C of the Correction Law, the chief officer must determine eligibility for appointment consistent with Article Twenty-Three-A of the Correction Law and provide a copy of that article to the applicant.

The act takes effect 120 days after it becomes law.
