Pharmacists may exercise professional judgment to refill non-controlled substance prescriptions in quantities greater than initially prescribed, up to a maximum ninety-day supply.

Refills under this authority may only occur after the patient's initial prescription is dispensed and cannot exceed the total quantity authorized by the prescriber.

Prescribers retain the right to indicate that initial or refill quantities shall not be changed, which pharmacists must respect.

Pharmacists must notify the prescriber of quantity-adjusted refills within five business days of dispensing.

Insurance coverage for the refilled quantity must be available without additional out-of-pocket costs to the patient.
