Kevin Moriarty, currently a Tier VI member of the New York State Teachers' Retirement System, shall be reclassified as a Tier IV member with all associated rights, benefits, and privileges.

His membership date is retroactively established as July 1, 1998, based on his employment as a part-time lecturer at Stony Brook University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences from 1998 through 2013, and subsequent ten-month lecturer employment.

Moriarty must file a written application with the head of the New York State Teachers' Retirement System on or before December 31, 2016, to implement this change.

All past service costs associated with this reclassification, estimated at $71,000, shall be borne by the employers of retirement system members rather than refunded to Moriarty.

The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
