Pet dealers are prohibited from selling unweaned birds at retail unless specific conditions are met

Pet dealers must provide written disclosure to buyers that the bird is not weaned, provide or verify buyer training on proper hand-feeding techniques, and obtain written buyer agreement for weekly inspections and weighing until the bird is fully weaned

"Weaned" is defined as a bird that does not require hand-feeding or animal assistance to sustain at least 90 percent of its own weight at time of sale

Pet dealers must document and record the weight of any hand-fed bird under one year of age on the sales receipt

The act takes effect 60 days after becoming law
