Pharmacists may exercise professional judgment to refill non-controlled substance prescriptions in quantities greater than initially prescribed, up to a 90-day supply maximum.

Refills must not exceed the total quantity authorized by the prescriber and can only occur after the patient's initial prescription is dispensed.

Prescribers must not have indicated that the initial or refill quantity cannot be changed, and controlled substances are excluded from this provision.

Pharmacists must notify the prescriber of such refills within five business days of dispensing.

Refill quantities must be covered by the patient's health insurance or health benefit plan without additional cost-sharing to the patient.
