Port Authority police officers injured or sickened in the performance of their duties receive full regular salary and wages until disability ceases, plus all medical and hospital care costs paid by the Authority.

Port Authority health authorities or appointed physicians may examine injured or sick officers and certify recovery; officers who refuse medical treatment or inspections waive their rights to salary continuation and medical expense coverage.

Medical providers cannot collect reimbursement from affected Port Authority police officers for treatment or care provided under this article.

Full salary payments stop if an officer receives an accidental or performance-of-duty disability retirement allowance, reaches mandatory retirement age, or qualifies for service retirement.

The Port Authority gains the right to pursue reimbursement from third parties responsible for injuries or illnesses that triggered salary and medical care payments to officers.
