Adds physicians as defined in Article 131 of the Education Law to the list of professionals protected under Penal Law Section 120.05 subdivision 3, making assault on physicians with intent to prevent them from performing lawful duties a crime.

Expands the definition of settings where direct patient care employees are protected to include "other setting where direct patient care is provided" beyond the specifically listed facilities in Penal Law Section 120.05 subdivisions 3-c and 11-c.

Extends assault protections to physicians in the same manner as existing protections for peace officers, police officers, prosecutors, nurses, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical personnel.

Takes effect on the ninetieth day after becoming law.
