Department of Corrections and Community Supervision must conduct a study on treatment, conditions, and prevalence of aging prison populations within correctional facilities.

Study must include demographic profiles of elderly inmates, projections for the next 5, 10, and 20 years, and factors contributing to growth in aging inmate populations.

Study must assess whether elderly inmates receive adequate specialized housing, medical care, and programs addressing their unique needs such as wheelchair accessibility and accommodations for diminished mental or physical capacity.

Study must evaluate specialized training provided to corrections officers working with older inmates and institutional oversight mechanisms ensuring welfare of elderly inmates in each facility.

Department must submit findings, conclusions, and legislative recommendations to the governor and legislature no later than one year after the act takes effect.
