Allows municipalities to enact local laws imposing residency restrictions on sex offenders required to register under the correction law.

Establishes a minimum threshold requiring municipal restrictions be no less restrictive than existing state requirements under Penal Law § 65.10 and Executive Law § 259-c.

Sets a maximum permissible residency restriction distance of 1,500 feet from school grounds, up from the current 1,000-foot standard.

Transfers authority for determining specific residency restriction distances to individual municipalities while maintaining state-set minimum and maximum parameters.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
